US airman arrested for drunk-driving accident

Okinawa Police on July 23 arrested a U.S. airman assigned to the U.S. Kadena Air Base on the spot on suspicion of drunken driving in Okinawa.

Police said that 22-year-old Joren Ladd admitted to the allegation. According to the police, he was driving under the influence of alcohol and caused a rear-end collision in Chatan Town at around 10:15 p.m. on the same day. The alcohol level that the police detected on his breath was about five times higher than the legal limit.

The U.S. military in Okinawa had banned its personnel from drinking outside the bases after a U.S. military civilian employee raped and killed a local young woman. It, however, withdrew this restriction in late June.
