Takeshima issue should be solved through diplomacy: JCP chair
Asked by reporters for a comment on South Korean President’s visit to Takeshima Island on August 10, Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo said, “Behavior that may increase tensions between Japan and South Korea should be avoided. Territorial issues should be addressed through diplomatic negotiations based on historical facts and international law.”

We won’t give up fighting consumption tax hike: JCP chairman
Commenting on the enactment of the tax hike bill, JCP Chair Shii Kazuo said at a press conference, “The legislation will take effect in two years. More people will come together to resist the tax increase as the date set for the implementation draws closer. The climax of our fight has yet to come.”

On August 6, the 67th anniversary of the U.S. forces’ atomic bombing of Hiroshima, the World Conference against A & H Bombs adopted the “Appeal from Hiroshima” calling for working together to start negotiations in advance of the Nuclear Weapons Convention.
