Dr. Nakamura's hands-on efforts for peace remembered at his funeral

A funeral service for Dr. Nakamura Tetsu who had worked hard in humanitarian assistance activities in Afghanistan as the local chief of "Peshawar-kai" took place in Fukuoka City on December 11.

Nakamura was shot dead on December 4 in Jalalabad, Afghanistan.

Along with a lot of his associates, friends, and other persons concerned as well as his family members, Akamine Seiken and Tamura Takaaki (Japanese Communist Party members of the Lower House) and Nihi Sohei (former JCP Upper House lawmaker) attended the funeral.

Akamine, looking back on his participation in the party's field survey in 2001 in Pakistan regarding the U.S. retaliatory war against Afghanistan, said, "Back then, the call for the dispatch of Japan's Self-Defense Forces was very dominant as an international contribution Japan could make. In times like that, Dr. Nakamura showed us the way international contributions should be. I have learned a lot from his hands-on activities about how Japan should act as a country with the war-renouncing Article 9 of the Constitution."

Tamura said, "I think again about the alarm Dr. Nakamura raised over Japan's support for U.S. wars. I will keep respecting his wish filled with benevolence and tireless dedication."
