On the first day of the Japanese Communist Party 28th Congress, January 14, a tea party for attending foreign diplomats took place at the venue.
Speaking on behalf of the JCP, Chair Shii Kazuo thanked members of the diplomatic corps in Japan for coming to attend the JCP Congress. Talking about the draft revision to the Party Program, Shii said, “I understand your views on our draft revision vary. Even so, I hope that cooperation based on common grounds will be developed.”
Together with Chair Shii, JCP leaders who took part in the tea party included Secretariat Head Koike Akira, Vice Chairs Ichida Tadayoshi, Ogata Yasuo, Hamano Tadao, Hiroi Nobuko, and Yamashita Yoshiki, and Standing Executive Committee member Fuwa Tetsuzo. They had warm conversations with the foreign diplomats.
Diplomatic envoys who attended the JCP Congress said, for example, “I was favorably impressed by the JCP’s efforts to establish gender equality and respect for diversity in Japan,” and “The JCP’s view on China described in the draft revision was surprising.”
