JCP Kami attends rally calling for return of Russian-held northern territories

Japanese Communist Party member of the House of Councilors Kami Tomoko on February 7 attended an assembly calling for the return of the Russian-held northern territories to Japan.

The assembly was hosted by the organizing committee consisting of the Cabinet Office and six local organizations.

The JCP expressed its view on this issue on the occasion of the holding of the rally, criticizing Russia’s Putin administration for pushing forward with its military buildup in the waters of the Chishima (Kuril) Archipelago. The JCP stressed that the post-war disposition regarding the Chishima islands should be corrected as it was carried out under the Yalta Agreement and the 1951 San Francisco Peace Treaty in violation of the basic internationally-accepted principle of non-territorial expansion. The JCP expressed its determination to work hard to achieve the return of not only Etorofu and Habomai islands but the entire Chishima Archipelago.
