U.S. soldier found guilty of hit and run

The Naha District Court on October 21 found a U.S. serviceman stationed at U.S. Marine Corps Camp Hansen in Okinawa guilty of vehicular injury.

Enrique Lopez Jr., 36, was charged with causing a hit-and-run accident in Naha City in April, seriously injuring three Japanese people in their 20s who were crossing at a crosswalk on a green light. He was also suspected of driving drunk.

He was sentenced to 34 months in jail suspended for five years.
