JCP holds memorial service for 206 activists

October 2, 2016
A memorial service for 206 Japanese Communist Party activists and assemblypersons who died over the past year took place on October 1 in Hachioji City in Tokyo.

More than 140 relatives from 87 bereaved families from throughout Japan participated in the ceremony.

After offering a silent prayer for the 206, JCP Vice Chair Ichida Tadayoshi gave a memorial address, “Their longtime struggles have paved the way for the arrival of the budding cooperation between opposition parties and concerned citizens. I’d like to express my deepest respect and appreciation for their commitment as JCP members.”

The late Uchida Masatomo was an Ioujima Town assemblyperson in Nagasaki Prefecture. His son Takahide, who is a Nagasaki City assemblyperson, spoke on behalf of the families of the deceased, “I will follow in my father’s footsteps and do my utmost to put a stop to Abe’s runaway policies.”

The wife of the late Kyoto Prefectural Assembly member Uchiyama Tokuaki recollected that the starting point in his involvement in working for world peace was the war young Uchiyama had experienced.
