PM Kan in Hiroshima: Nuclear deterrence is necessity Hiroshima City Mayor Akiba Tadatoshi, in the Peace Declaration he read out at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial ceremony on August 6, demanded that the government gabandon holding to the U.S. nuclear umbrella.h However, Prime Minister Kan Naotofs reply was that gnuclear deterrence is a necessity,h and anger at this statement is increasing among many Hiroshima citizens including the Hibakusha (A-bomb victims).
2010 World Conference against A and H Bombs - Hiroshima Held The 2010 World Conference against A and H Bombs -- Hiroshima was held from August 4 - 6 in Hiroshima City. The opening plenary on August 4 was attended by 7,400 delegates from grass-roots organizations all over Japan. In light of the result of the 2010 NPT Review Conference, participants expressed their conviction that the elimination of nuclear weapons has become a realistic goal and expressed the determination to further develop the grass-roots campaigns.
